Notes from a Dragon Mom
A hard and beautiful thing to read.

Love,
M
despite the sleep deprivation and the fact that i still can’t fit into my favorite pair of jeans, there is a LOT to be grateful for these days. i used to keep a gratitude journal everyday, and this morning i was reminded by how beautiful life feels when you take the time to appreciate the little things. so here goes:
it’s the way little guy sounds like a baby bird when he’s waking up.
it’s the unlimited access i have to green juice whenever i want.
it’s discovering a show that you should have been watching all along [modern family].
it’s my love coming home with a little surprise that he knows will make me smile.
it’s the way he always saves me the very best bite of whatever he’s eating.
it’s the outpouring of love from my dear friends who have shown so much support for our little family.
it’s hanging on a weekday at home with my sis.
it’s planning a spontaneous trip up the coast for next weekend, and not being intimidated by traveling with an infant.
it’s knowing that my guy will tell me i look beautiful, even when i don’t feel so good myself.
it’s those moments in the middle of the night, watching my little boy fall asleep on my chest, looking totally and completely content.
it’s the sound of our record player blasting nat king cole.
it’s the golden late afternoon glow streaming in through our windows in the fall.
it’s the fact that it takes 3 minutes to see the ocean every day.
it’s the way that in the last year, the word ‘family’ has morphed into something larger and more complex and beautiful than i ever could have imagined.
time to start playing the gratitude game more often. here we go…
eyes closed we’re gonna spin through the stars
our arms wide as the sky
we gonna ride the blue all the way to the end of the world,
to the end of the world
oh and when the kids are old enough we’re gonna teach them to flyyyy
